Sally Banfill Has Three Paintings Featured In The Motel Life Book Review

"And us, we took the bad luck and strapped it around our feet like concrete. We did the worst imaginable thing you could do. We ran away." - from The Motel Life.

Willy Vlautin's novel "The Motel Life" is the story of two brothers in Nevada who flee a hit and run accident. It is a bad luck road trip of a book with the decaying historic core of Reno as the backdrop.

William V. Lombardi has written an in depth review of the novel for The Western American Literature Quarterly Journal (Spring/Summer 2013). Three paintings from Sally Banfill's "Roadside Attraction" series are featured in the article. The paintings depict iconic motel signs from the car culture era in stark and surreal settings.
